Rev. John Reese

Rector

Fr. Reese was born (1961) and raised in Nutley, New Jersey, about 10 miles west of mid-town Manhattan. After four years of frustration with mechanical engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, he spent four years in the United States Army, serving first as an enlisted man and then as a commissioned officer. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (1986) with a major in history from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and also graduated from the Army ROTC program at the same school. After completing his military obligation as a field artillery officer at Fort Sill, Oklahoma (1989), he served as a deputy sheriff for five years with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado Springs. He worked in the patrol division for most of that time, policing the streets of the unincorporated areas of the county. Answering a call to ordained ministry, he next attended Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, graduating with a Master’s in Divinity degree (1997). Fr. Reese then ministered as Rector of Trinity Church in Fredonia, New York for over seven years. He became Rector of St. Andrew’s on March 1, 2005.

Fr. Reese has been married to Jeanette since 1986. They have a son, Hamilton (b. 2001). In addition to a love for leading worship, preaching, and teaching, he enjoys reading (especially history), running, cycling, walking, music (particularly classical and real country), sports, and eating. (He has also been a fan of The Simpsons since its debut in 1989, and has facilitated The Gospel According to The Simpsons as an adult education class.)
